Hey all!

A big thank you to [livejournal.com profile] annarti for answering [livejournal.com profile] ladylight's emergency distress beacon at the start of the week and agreeing to format the Talechasing book. It is very sincerely appreciated.

Also, for those of you that haven't seen it, [livejournal.com profile] ladylight has posted a review of the writing program Scrivener.

Lastly, for those that are unaware, there is a private Talechasing group on Facebook. It was set up some time ago and at the moment is only used to notify members when these check-ins are posted. However, if you'd like to join, contact me privately.

Congratulations again!

I envy your walks in that park. It sounds like there are a lot of interesting things to see!

Living in the bush would be my idea of heaven. Sadly, in Perth it equates to No Internet, which disqualifies its utopian status. It would almost be worth it to have tea with cockies like yours, but unfortunately cockies take a much longer time to pass messages to friends across the world ...

I applaud your partisan thinking re babies. You are going to have even more fun with your nephew when he's ambulatory. And reading age! Ooh! The joys of introducing a little one to The Hobbit! :D

May you continue to live in interesting times ;)

I've been... a little out of sorts. Still recovering from being sick, which happens every other month or so, and I'm terribly behind on NaNo because I've been so out of it. Sadness.

Get well soon! And good luck catching up on NaNo!

This week has been the opposite of good. Exams are approaching, pathology assignments need to be redone because the prof released NEW guidelines, and I am generally under soul-crushing amounts of stress. This is putting tension on my relationship with my SO, which is always great to deal with when trying to keep afloat with school.

My mom recently returned from her trip to visit family in the Netherlands. It is nice to have her back, but it also kind of exacerbated a sad situation. Three weeks ago we had to put our dog down due to illness, and my mom left for her trip shortly after. My dad and I are adjusted to not having a dog in the house, but my mom isn't so we're all going through the adjustment process with her again. We wanted to spread our dog's ashes in the park, but the snow cover is here for good now and we will have to wait until spring. The whole thing just added a sad tone to the week.

This week has been utterly gross and I am glad to be rid of it.

Coming up on two months on Seattle, trying had to get out of grocery demos because this job is killing me. Then again 75% of the available options seem to be overnight an weekend... Nnng damnit!

Got a new Friendly Local Game Store to play at found and getting my minis painting back in my schedule, as well as playing in a weekly Pathfinder Society game with Cassie (the wife) and Mike (our roommate). Want an every-week, story- and Roleplay-driven campaign still damnit. Also applying to be a Storyteller at the new boffer LARP we joined put here, Dystopia Rising. (DR is consuming a significant portion of the free radical/random part of my brain...)

School is looking like if not the President's list, I'll be on the Dean's list for my next-to-last semester.

I'm tired. I'm stressed. I'm trying to adjust. It's pretty, it's working... But I'm not there yet.

And holy HELL am I rambling.

Sounds like everyone is definitely getting their fill of stress!

I have a meeting with the dean Wednesday afternoon. Not sure if that's when I learn about the job or not, but I hope so. This waiting is horrible. I'd like to have at least one of my stressful situations resolved!

*sidles in* Hello! I'm distracted and still adjusting to the new job, hence I forgot to check in last week...Looks like I missed a ton of stuff on LJ.

Currently browsing around to decide if it would be worth it to go back to school for a second/graduate degree or somehow build on the degree I already have, which I haven't made much use of. I like working (and earning money for the change!), but I realised last week if I stay on the path I'm on now, financial independence/stability might be a little difficult to achieve...Rather sobering thoughts, so I'm feeling a little blah right now ;) I'm trying to keep calm and drink some tea.

This week's night shift was just monstrous. No other way to describe it. (The popular joke in the office when discussing Game of Thrones seasons is that we should have a family motto which goes "fuck winter - summer is coming".) Priority to priority to priority. By the time holiday season starts up, it will be "muesli bar weather", which is when you start taking muesli bars or similar snacks to work and stowing them in your vest because you know you won't get to eat ...

Happily though, it is not a zombie run. I have today off and have almost adjusted back to afternoon shift time, which is what I'll be working tomorrow.

Currently the target of much ridicule at the office because the new sergeant is a stickler for routine and she made me put in a report about some bruising/minor laceration I received during an arrest over the weekend. I did it with a sinking feeling (policy says we record all 'injuries' - common sense dictates that we only bother for something we're going to get medically treated!) ... and sure enough, the bastards have been asking about my 'booboo' and offering to kiss it better on a regular basis ever since. XD *facedesk*

I wrote a little more in my story bible this week just to relieve some stress. I now have a decent name and description for the religious institution the main characters are members of, and some fairly good descriptions of the cities they are from.

Channeling a weird balance between Gandalf the Grey and Maas for the NPC I'm creating for Dystopia Rising.

Also, Cassie threw out a few if the key paints for my Space Marines, somI'm stuck on painting them until I can scrape the budget butter over more bread to allow for a paint purchase. Suppose working on the Reaper Bones Kickstarter minis will have to do until then...

I've been mostly keeping up with the NaNo wordcount (although I haven't started today), but I'm feeling a bit stymied and not quite sure what I'm doing. I'm considering taking a few days off, as writing/November Projects/NaNos should simply be fun, not stressful. Besides, I remember last year I stopped writing for about 10 days and still managed to hit 50000 on Nov. 30 :P Hopefully, by taking a few days off to plan and restore my sense of fun about the project, I'll feel a whole lot better and be more productive when I do get back to actual writing. :)

Finished Three Parts Dead by Max Gladstone. I haven't liked a book as much as i did this one in a long time, despite some reservations I had about the ending. I'm trying to find a book that'll measure up to it now, but nothing's caught my interest yet, though I have Kate Elliott's Cold Magic near the top of the pile. Looks interesting, but it's a bit hard to carry around, being so thick. I've been eyeing e-readers lately...

^-^; Actually, it was nihiriki who suggested the linked themes. I just agreed that it seemed a good idea.

Looking at that list... I'd say "summer - joy" or something like that, to cover both the cycle of birth-primelife-death and the balance between living easily/well and the harshness of survival.

Which doesn't mean I want to rule out the others, but since there was a gap there...

Have we settled on a word count?

Of the suggestions made for summer, I like Lynn's 'joy', and Liss's 'adventure'. 'Power', which I think you suggested, also seems appropriately summery, especially thinking about summer storms...

The only thing I could think of last week for summer was 'quest'. Summer time seems like a good time to embark on a quest :)

May I ask how the critique club/circle/thing would actually work? Would we post stories to Talechasing and use the comment section to leave critiques?

I can't believe we're more than halfway through November already. Any creative plans for December? :D Always need to end the year with a bang, right?
