Hi all!

If there's anyone who participated in the Talechasing anthology who hasn't received their copy, please check in and let me know.

The challenge for 2014 is evolving into something a little more open. Please check out the comments regarding this topic and share your thoughts.

Not much of the year left to go!

I hope you've got a chance to get a little time for yourself this weekend! *good thoughts*

Sounds like you had a lovely end to your week. :) Glad to hear you fought off that cold, though I hope you did get some time to rest despite the busy weekend.

I'm glad one of us is getting constructive things done. Not much left of 2013 now.

Can't believe we're halfway through December! Yikes! I am behind on the cleaning, the emails, work, and Xmas gifts. In fact, for the last, I think everyone will be getting giftcards and chocolates. XD Thankfully, only one more week to go for work. When I go back in January, I should hopefully have a new job (in the same office).

With Xmas approaching, I've caught the knitting bug again and have spent most of this weekend looking at knitting patterns. I see I'm not the only one! The cold weather (-30 with windchill) and the foot-and-a-half of snow we got over Saturday night/Sunday morning has helped. Because of arm pain, I'm not up to big projects anymore, so I have some socks and gloves and hats lined up. With this weather, I'm reminded that one can never have too many hats/mittens/gloves/scarves and socks!

Gift card plus chocolate sounds like a dream arrangement. My family has half-heartedly talked about Present Quotas and prescribed gifts before - I wish this idea would finally be instituted. The only thing people really look forward to is spending Christmas foodtime together anyway.

Good luck with the new job ... hope the new office has good heating :S

FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEDOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pardon my enthusiasm, but I am just a little bit excited to be done exams. Most of them went well, but the last was very dastardly and quite tough. However, it is gone and over and done with. I am elated.

I just got off the hill from a delightful day of skiing in Fernie, British Columbia. It is lovely here, and the skiing has been nice so far. I have also gotten a chance to sit down and read, which it not something I've done for pleasure lately. The Talechasing anthology has been an absolute delight :)

XD

Congratulations on your hard-won liberty! And good luck with your results. With that amount of stress and preparation I'm sure you'll come off really well. ;)

Now you can settle down to rest! And read! I've read the Talechasing anthology over a few times in the process of editing (of course), but I am going to try to set aside a few hours before the end of the year to reread under more relaxing conditions ...

Congrats! So glad to hear you're done exams and they went well. :)

Skiing in B.C. sounds wonderful. :) I have to try cross-country skiing sometime. I've done downhill once and was terrified of the steep slopes XD. Enjoy the downtime and hope you manage to get tons of relaxing and reading done.

I have officially run out of time. Even setting my alarms so I had a minimum five hours sleep each day didn't give me the chance to do everything I needed to. I'm a bit depressed about the state of Christmas but trying to stay positive, since at least it's already a given that I will see and spend plenty of time with them.

Settlement at least is finished but I'm still very angry about the time and money it took. I know exactly who to blame for my shoddy Christmas preparations and have provided them with a very ... informative ... feedback survey (minus the four-letter words).

Also received a birthday invitation from an old friend I haven't seen for ages on my first day off after Christmas. It's one of those ones I can't turn down and although I would really like to catch up with her, I won't be able to do that at a pub drinks session where she's the only person I know anyway. I already spent my meagre social energies on the office Christmas dinner last night and I just want the world to go away unless it's related to me ... and even then, it better be CLOSELY related ...

Back to work this afternoon after one day "off" for the work dinner. Can't wait for next year's holidays so I can retreat to my new cave and hiss at intruders for a while. There's even an automatic gate to keep them out!

Just finished the requested Christmas present for my brother: a hat a la Jayne Cobb from Firefly. Now I have a tiny bit of time to play with me-projects before I go off for Christmas. If only I could find the ENERGY to do them!

During the commute to and from work and some moments snatched at lunch and at home this week, I managed to read my entire NaNo 2013 start to finish on my Kobo (I converted the file to .rtf and it appears just like an ebook on the Kobo Touch). It was so exciting to be able to look at my junk anytime I wanted and to be able to read it comfortably on an ereader that I actually enjoyed the experience. Still, I've got my work cut out for me. :S I'm so tempted to get that Scrivener program (totally Liss's fault - if she hadn't reminded me about the NaNo goodies...), but there's a part of me that really questions whether I'd actually use it, given that I write willy-nilly anyway.

No doubt due to my misanthropic turn of mood lately, my thoughts and 4am scribbles have centred entirely around necromancer knights. ;P

I am also finding it hard to escape the realisation that the longer I take to finish the stories which came before, the longer it will be before any of my more recent scribbles can be shared. So I am thinking about switching focus to finishing the need-to-know stories like Cometfall and Corpseraker and Sunless Sky.

Perhaps I will follow Narti's good example and try to clean house a bit next year. I could really do with some help in polishing the story I'm working on at the moment, but it would just be too shot through with spoilers and knowledge gaps to hand on to anyone else for now.

Here's a fanvideo of Sherlock meeting the Doctor (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q3bGYljQ5Uw). That's some quality editing there.

And a video game with nothing to see (http://abler.gizmodo.com/a-video-game-with-nothing-to-see-1477106603), as it's completely audio-based.

This (http://lachristensen.wordpress.com/2012/02/24/alpha-reading/) is a great post on alpha-reading.

I would like to put my hand up to participate in both the Talechasing challenges and the Novel tracking team.

I am happy to critic others work. Already I am blown away by the stories included in the Anthology. Paantha I want to know what happens to that boy!!!!

I've sort of lost my train of thought on this one, LOL. I think I'm starting to get a little confused - is the critique part mandatory? I still like the idea of including everyone - i.e., once every three months, write something (anything) to be posted (are we still holding onto this timeline?). Just read over Liss's and your posts from last week on this subject, and I like the idea of keeping things open for the novellers out there - i.e., if critiquing is mandatory, readers can choose to either start reading from the beginning (and post a critique for the first 10,000 words of the novel for the current quarter's critique session) or read the words that came before and just critique the 10,000 from the current quarter. Shorts will hopefully be less convoluted. XD Either way, novel-writers will still get the full critique/community experience. Did I understand the plan right?

I wonder if the themes could actually be a free-for-all. I.e., just a fun thing to practice with every quarter - could be a short story, poem, haiku, drabble related to the theme, and just post the thing you really want read/critiqued as the submission for the quarter.
